The term “Starving Artist” exists for a reason. While my professional training may have been in taxidermy, my lifestyle may be dedicated to farming, and my business is rooted in earth-based products, at heart I am an artist. I create for the pleasure and satisfaction of creating something unique and beautiful. Not unlike my affinity for taxidermy, I enjoy recreating expression and capturing moments and emotion on paper as well. Raptors are a favorite subject of mine. Graphite and chalk pastels are my specialties.
Generally, my art is something I do for myself and the people in my life. If you’d like me to create something meaningful for you, feel free to reach out. My photo-realistic portrait work often takes 20-40 hours per graphite portrait. Full body, full color, or complex work can take over 60 hours. Impressionistic portrait work may be 5 to 10 hours. While I have no set commission or wage for my artwork, I appreciate when my time is taken into consideration by anyone requesting that I invest that time into a project that is meaningful to them. To put it simply; I let folks let me know what my artwork is worth to them. If the project intrigues me or piques my interest, I will take it on. I know how many business-minded people cringe at that, but at the end of the day, hey, art is not my livelihood.
