RED RASPBERRY LEAF AS A HEALING HERB

[**The following is an excerpt from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States by C. W. Kane**]

Chemistry:
Flavonoids: rutin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin; caffeic acid derivatives; phenolic acids; anthocyanins/anthocyanidins

Medicinal Uses:
A time-tested and kindly remedy, [Red Raspberry’s] heralded reputation is not without founding. 1-2 cups daily (no more), started at the beginning of the last trimester of pregnancy has a tonifying effect, lessening the possibility of miscarriage. Though its influence is in the area of vascularity, it also makes the birthing process better defined and efficient.
Used as a sitz bath and internal tea, Red Raspberry is additionally a mild postpartum tonic. It too reduces the inflammation and discharge of vaginitis and cervicitis. For heavy menstruation, if there is red blood when menses should be at its end, the internal tea is useful. Even mid-cycle spotting will be curbed with the tea. For urinary irregularities, such as mild cystitis or urethritis, it will also prove soothing.
Besides Red Raspberry’s active tissue influence, the tea contains a fair amount of calcium. Although the mineral’s quantity is not large (compared to supplementation), due to its absorbable form, most of it is bioavailable. For the plant’s nutrient uses, it combines well with Horsetail or Nettle.
